![]() You can squeeze a lot of drama out of girls having to vote against their friends, but I don’t think you can get that many different types of drama. The girls voting one another out is a great catalyst for drama, but it’s also a great way to get the same plot points over and over, season after season. It was also the story of All Stars 3 (culminating in Dela’s quit), All Stars 4 (Naomi eliminating Manila), and All Stars 5 (Mayhem and Mariah self-eliminating, India attempting to play mind games). But the thing is it’s been the story of most of the All-Stars seasons since All Stars 2, when Adore quit, Alaska threw a temper tantrum, and Detox sent home Alyssa over Roxxxy. Kasha showed weakness on that front and was promptly sent home, while Darienne, who’d been doing worse, got to stay. If we’re looking at it thematically, the season has largely been about what the girls will or won’t do to win: What does this mean to them, and how far are they willing to go? Heidi’s quit was one answer to that query, while the question of Kandy’s willingness to send Jimbo home is another. There are now four versions of the file in play: the two in the tip commits of the master and commander branches, and the two in your working tree and index (one or both of which have been altered, depending on whether you have staged the changes with git add). Suppose you have uncommitted changes to a tracked file when you try to switch branches. To switch to commander, simply use : $ git checkout commander Suppose you have two branches named master and commander, and youâre currently on master. git checkout does all of these things, and more. Technically, you could update the HEAD ref directly with git update-ref, but this isnât usually done and would be very confusing by itself normally, you want your working tree and index to match the new branch tip when you switch branches, taking into account any uncommitted changes you may have. Here, git symbolic-ref HEAD shows the ref (branch name) to which HEAD points: $ git symbolic-ref HEAD The HEAD by definition indicates the branch that you are âon,â and switching to a branch means that you are then âonâ that branch. The only thing that has to happen to switch branches is to change the HEAD symbolic ref to point to the new branch name. The usual tool for switching branches is git checkout, of which the -b option given previously is just a special case: switching to a branch that doesnât yet exist is creating a new branch. When you make your first commit, Git will create the master branch with it. However, a branch name is just a ref pointing to the latest commit on the branchâand there are no commits yet in this new, empty repository, and so there is no master branch ref yet. Git has initialized the HEAD ref to point to master, making master the current branch. ![]() The error message is technically correct, though. Git could be more helpful here, since getting a âfatalâ error with a newly created repository strongly suggests that something is broken. ![]() Initialized empty Git repository in /u/res/zork/.git/ If you try to use the master branch in a brand-new repository, however, youâll get perhaps unexpected results for example: $ git init The master branch is conventionally used if there is only one branch in a repository, or if there are several but there is a single, clear main line of development. There is nothing special about this name aside from being used as a default, and you can rename or delete it if you like. Some of these are used in the development of Git itself.Ī new Git repository created with git init has a single branch with the default name master. The man page gitworkflows(7) presents several branching disciplines that may be directly useful, or give you ideas on how to structure your own projects in other ways. Product development continues, but you may need to apply bug fixes or new features to that version even after youâve released 2.0, for customers who are still using the older version the 1.0 branch allows you to do that (and git cherry-pick is particularly useful in this case see git cherry-pick). When you release version 1.0 of your product, it gets its own branch. When the feature is ready, you do the opposite: merge the feature branch into master, adding the new code to the main version of the project.Īnother use for multiple branches is to continue maintenance on older versions of software. Periodically, you merge master into your feature branch, so youâre working on up-to-date code and notice and resolve any conflicts. You work on the feature branch while developing that feature, and switch to the master branch to work on the main project (which does not yet contain the new feature code). ![]() Branches allow different versions of the same content to evolve independently at the same time, while you periodically recombine the contributions from different branches in a process called âmerging.â When you switch from one branch to another, Git updates your working tree to reflect the state of the repository content in the tip commit of the new branch.Ī typical use for a branch is to work on a new software feature in isolation, without adding it to the main line of development of the project these are often called âfeatureâ or âtopicâ branches. Now that you know how to create a repository and commit to a single branch, itâs time to learn about using multiple branches. ![]() Fix: Pawn lend quests only take into consideration children and babies when determining colonist count when generating.Fix: Xenogerms with different genes and name stack in trade screen.Ensure that at least one adult pawn can be left behind before generating quest. Another advantage of egg tempera is that, unlike oil paint, it is resistant to light, and its colors do not darken or change with age.īut egg tempera doesn’t always work. ![]() This lets the light penetrate through it and reflect off the white surface of the primer beneath it. Tempera is more transparent than oil and holds less pigment. Why do artists use egg tempera?Īsk any artist and they will tell you the greatest appeal of egg tempera is the glowing quality that made it ideal for Renaissance painters who wanted to capture ethereal biblical scenes. Mixing fine powdered pigment with egg yolk created a strong bind. This ability was harnessed by painters thousands of years ago. Many artists continue to use this ancient recipe, and luckily vegan alternatives are available.Īs anyone who has ever baked will know, the egg is a peculiarly sticky substance that indelibly binds together ingredients. Traditionally, tempera was applied to wooden panels, such as poplar, that were coated with gesso (a primer made from rabbit skin glue) and (usually white) pigment. So the surfaces needed priming with something that would do its bit to create the ideal surface. While non-porous surfaces, like the aluminum being used by modern artists, can peel. Untreated porous surfaces, like paper, canvas and wood will absorb the fluid, leaving the paint pigments alone and vulnerable to flaking off. Since the dawn of painting, there has been an age-old question: how do you get pigment (color) to stick to a surface? The answer is to create a binding or glue that fixes the pigment to that surface. Traditionally, tempera was applied to wooden panels, such as poplar, coated with a special primer called gesso. Egg tempera is created by mixing egg yolk with powdered pigments and a little water. That enabled the song to debut on the Hot 100 all the way up at No. 7 (coincidentally, the same No. 7 peak where “Barbie World” debuted this year), but MCA issued a deliberately low number of singles to force most consumers hankering for “Barbie” to purchase the full-length Aqua CD instead. There are a ton of dolls with a wide range of careers and features, so kids can create a myriad of worlds to explore. label MCA pulled off this trick through chart gamesmanship: At the height of the music business’s Great War Against the Single, MCA pumped up airplay for “Barbie Girl” on terrestrial radio for weeks before issuing a retail single. Barbie dolls are wonderful for kids and adults alike. It topped charts in more than a dozen countries, including the U.K., where Aqua scored two No. 1 follow-ups: the moodier “ Turn Back Time” and the Indiana Jones–inspired “ Doctor Jones.” In America, where the Scandinavian pop band was essentially a one-hit wonder, “Barbie Girl” powered Aqua’s debut album Aquarium to triple-platinum sales all by itself. Loathed by rock fans-a 2011 Rolling Stone readers’ poll ranked it the worst song of the ’90s-“Barbie Girl” was, with the rest of America and much of the world, extremely popular. Quirkier still is Billie Eilish’s watery, heartsick “ What Was I Made For?,” which speaks to the movie’s existential plot while giving Eilish a chance to play the saddest-ever game of dress-up. Sam Smith’s “ Man I Am” applies their recent shift toward high-camp art pop to the Ken character with a very 2023 gender-nonconforming twist. Watch the official music video of Barbie Girl, a song by Tori V about a blonde fancy girl in a Barbie world. Latin superstar Karol G’s reggaetón jam “ Watati,” named after featured artist Aldo Ranks’ favorite nonsensical exclamation, aligns Barbie’s beachy vibe with a dembow beat. From there, the tracks have gotten quirkier and more eclectic. Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky. When syndicating a show, the production company, or a distribution company called a syndicator, attempts to license the show to one station in each media market or area, or to a commonly owned station group, within the country and internationally. For example, National Public Radio ( NPR) stations commonly air the Public Radio Exchange's This American Life, which may contain stories produced by NPR journalists. This form of syndication more closely resembles the news agency model, where nominally competing networks share resources and rebroadcast each other's programs. as a parallel service to member stations of the Public Broadcasting Service ( PBS) and the handful of independent public broadcasting stations. This type of syndication has arisen in the U.S. Successful shows in syndication can cover production costs and make a profit, even if the first run of the show was not profitable. A show usually enters off-network syndication when it has built up about four seasons' worth or between 80 and 100 episodes, though for some genres the number could be as low as 65. Reruns are usually found on stations affiliated with smaller networks like The CW or MyNetworkTV, especially since these networks broadcast one less hour of prime time network programming than the Big Four television networks and far less network-provided daytime television (none at all for these networks). In off-network syndication, a program whose first airing was on network television (or, in some cases, first-run syndication) is licensed for local broadcast on individual stations. Often it is made specifically to sell directly into syndication and not made for any particular network. In first-run syndication, a program is broadcast for the first time as a syndicated show. Three common types of syndication are: first-run syndication, which is programming that is broadcast for the first time as a syndicated show and is made specifically to sell directly into syndication off-network syndication (colloquially called a " rerun"), which is the licensing of a program whose first airing was on network TV or in some cases, first-run syndication and public broadcasting syndication. Shows can be syndicated internationally, although this is less common. Syndication is less widespread in the rest of the world, as most countries have centralized networks or television stations without local affiliates. It is common in the United States where broadcast programming is scheduled by television networks with local independent affiliates. ( Learn how and when to remove this template message)īroadcast syndication is the practice of leasing the right to broadcasting television shows and radio programs to multiple television stations and radio stations, without going through a broadcast network.
